Today I am sharing a DIY to make these cute little flowers using french knitted cords. This French knitted flower is a 10 minute craft (if you have a knitting machine). But making one by hand will take no longer than a few hours. Let’s get started.
What you need
- Yarn (cotton, acryl, wool), scraps are fine too as long as it is enough. You need around 10 grams per flower.
- A french knitting doll or knitting machine with 4 pins.
- A tapestry needle or a crochet hook.
- Some epic vintage buttons (or some normal ones).
- A free hour or two.
Let’s get started!
If you don’t know how to work with a french knitting doll or a knitting machine, I would suggest to read this tutorial about how to start and finish your yarn thread.
I would love to hear from you! Let me know what you think of this tutorial. Show me your finished flowers on social media #vaemkes or if you have some awesome tips for me, share them in a comment or email me, firstname.lastname@example.org
Take a 24 inch or 60 cm long french knitted cord and an embroidery needle. No need for a sharp needle.
Now fold a part of your cord double and use the needle to wiggle the end through the loops. This is how you create the leaves of the flower.
Repeat step 2 until you have 5, 6, 7 or 8 flower pedals. Whichever number you prefer. The lesser the amount the bigger the flower will be.
Your flower should look like this when you are at the end of the cord. You can skip a tiny bit if needed, as can be seen on the picture.
Now move the thread through the leaves and your flower will start to take shape.
Use both threads to tie a knot and keep your flower in shape. Just a regular knot would do the trick.
To add some drama to your flower add a cute little (vintage or re-used) button. It will make your flower beautiful. Try different colors, shapes and buttons to get a variety of flowers. Create a garland, add some to your hat or clothes or pimp a bag. Be creative is all that matters.
